Again that's a developer issue, who puts the teleporter right in the middle of the ship or directly next to the giant very important warp core.. that's rushing.. and little bit of laziness..

Why do you NEED a giant "ST" teleporter room/platform modeled.. heck when i saw the cargo bases for the first time, i thought they were more reasonably the teleporter pads than every purposefully modeled teleporter in the game...

Hey, good call... I'll ignore it for now and then come back to it later. I'm working today and editing tonight so I don't think I'll get any work done on this in the mean time but I'll continue to discuss the logic.

Multiple respawn points would be nice if for nothing else but to prevent spawn killing.

They are limited by space in their design, and while the placement may not make sense when looking at it from a logical point of view, it probably adds to the gameplay a lot more.

If the teleporter room was down a small corridor that was easily defended it would add huge defence bonuses. Which in turn would make boarding from enemies less of an adrenaline rush and more of a shoot the fish in the barrel.

Sometimes gameplay overrules function.

I don't like the use of teleporters anyway so I won't argue any points regarding them too much.
They just take away the much more awesome opportunity to have shuttle crafts, fighters and docking craft... Being able to see the enemy coming is hella more exciting and nerveracking that "oh there are baddies on board."

ANYHU, there are a lot of aspects of the stock ships that could be refined, cleaned up, improved or simply removed, but that is why we chose to design our own :3

If the surrounding gameplay for the boarding mechanic was balanced with better defensive mechanics you could layout the ship a bit better.

For instance: lockable doors, teleporter import time. Better onboard sensors.

Also, I reckon if the teleporter was more like the ring platforms from Stargate and needed to be aligned it would require more skill and balance it a bit. However for a single man running an AI crew there would be a problem.

Okay, So I'm at the Phase now where I start to test how it would look using some actual renders in Maya (Specifically Mental Ray). I am going to do this to het an actual feel for how some lighting would work and whether or not the object feels solid. I am doing this in the Rec Room because chances are that is where I will be adding some of the furniture first.

That's one big-ass room.

The plan is to have th kitchen to one side (probably in a concave in the wall).

A bar on the other side with stools (Same thing with the concave)

A dining table in the middle up the front, some chairs and a coffee table.

ahhh.... A pool table, vending machine and a few other things.

That's looking sweet!
