Activities During Warp

  • While the Skip Warp feature makes warping from place to place less painful, I think a fantastic addition to the game would be role-specific activities that can be done during the minutes of warp travel. Each role could have different options based on the needs of the ship so that each warp can feel different. In addition, some activities require the roles to work together.

    Engineer - repair ship, craft upgrades, optimize systems (e.g. tweak the shields so that they are stronger only until the next warp), etc.

    Pilot - simulator practice, help engineer with any engine-related fixes/optimizations, tweak jump packs, etc.

    Scientist - more things to find on planets, ships, etc. that can then be experimented with/researched, help Engineer craft items

    Weapons Specialist - clean/fix/optimize weapons, help Engineer craft handheld weapons, etc.

    Captain - can help with any task to make it go faster/better, but cannot do anything on own


    I'm sure that tons more can be added to this, or the depth of each individual item can be increased to make them engaging. Then this would make folks look forward to warp jumps and make them productive, perhaps even hectic (when the warp is short), in preparation for the next sector.

  • Warp travel usually doens't take minutes unless the host has a really crappy PC or never finds out about Skip Warp (F8 or click on the jump button on the engineering panel).

    Oh, I'm aware that warp skip is an option. I'm saying it would be great to have motivation to NOT skip it and instead make it a part of the game too.

  • I agree, right now the warp is a glorified loading screen (literally)
    If there were activities to improve the ship or such it would be a much smoother if not valuable time.

    On a side note; if I remember correctly the time it takes to be able to skip warp is the time it takes for everyone to load the next sector not just the host. Any time after that is meant to represent the time it would take to get to that next sector.

  • I also agree with this.
    However i believe that it should be more roleplay specific not like gameplay (if that makes sense) with upgrading the ship because that's what the cargo is for.
    I feel that it should be more like gambling among crew members which they could gamble their spending money given to them by them captain.
    Also every other warp the captain could be required to make and send a report to their command based on which one of the factions they are with and then if they miss a report the next time you visit a command area you will be fined.
    Finally the crew could be given issues with the ship. Like a parasite made its way on the ship on an exo suit so during warp u will have to deal with that or other things like contaminated oxygen supply and so on.
    also possibly something that gives the living area a use like cooking instead of buying rations just add stuff to make the game more able for roleplay.
    Let me know what u think about the stuff i have mentioned here and if you agree.
