How do I give a bot a new gun ?

How do I trade gear with a bot to upgrade it ? For ex. I bought a better gun for one bot, but I see no way to actually give it to him. When in his inventory screen, I can't access mine. I can put stuff into his locker, but how do I then make him access his own locker to get an item ?
